Unbrokem
The woman in the painting stands with her back to the viewer. She does not turn away in shame or defeat. She protects her privacy, her stories, her wounds. Her face remains hidden in the darkness so that no one can see the tears, fear, disappointment or exhaustion that accompanied her on her journey.
She looks into the darkness in front of her, but not with her head bowed. On the contrary. She holds her head up and leans on her own hands, as if she were providing herself with the support that life has often denied her. The darkness in front of her is not a symbol of the end, but of an unknown future into which she looks with courage and hope.
The pearl necklace flowing down her back and sides is not just an ornament. Each bead represents a tear that no one has seen. The tears have turned into pearls – evidence of the pain she has experienced, but also of the strength that has come from it. What should have been weakness has become her ornament.
The open arms express openness to new beginnings. Although she keeps her secret, she does not close herself off from life. She carries her past, but does not let it bind her. She is not ashamed of her scars or the path she has traveled.
Unbroken is the image of a woman who has gone through darkness, but has not lost herself. A woman who has been tried, but not defeated. We do not see her face, because her story could belong to any of us. However, we see the most important thing - the strength to move on.
